So here I am, blah blah blah about the need for more positive postings and then I read that someone (OP) didn't get a reply to emails so she's not expecting much from a COUNTRY! Not very hip. As for #1, it's just plain weird.

Strange days have found us
Strange days have tracked us down
Theyre going to destroy
Our casual joys
We shall go on playing
Or find a new town

Yeah!

Strange eyes fill strange rooms
Voices will signal their tired end
The hostess is grinning
Her guests sleep from sinning
Hear me talk of sin
And you know this is it

Yeah!

Strange days have found us
And through their strange hours
We linger alone
Bodies confused
Memories misused
As we run from the day
To a strange night of stone

OP you do not say what your budget is but you could try Tonle Sap guesthouse which has rooms from 10$ per night or you could try Woolly Rhinos which have rooms from 5$ per night I think. Not sure on Woolly Rhino's website address so you will need to do a search on Google for it. You should get replies from them if you email them.

Both places are along the riverfront and near Mekong Express bus station/office.

#1 needs some professional help....Obviously just some moron who has never set foot in this beautiful country, Cambodia.
You will be SAFER than walking the streets of sydney at the same time, or L.A, or London.

Hi

I didn't get a reply for an email sent and faxed when trying to reserve accomodation in Bangkok, I haven't tried Cambodia yet. I just assumed that it would be more difficult. Sorry for making the assumption. But thanks everyone for your accomodation suggestions, and I will try and confirm from Bangkok. By the way I'm not looking for anything fancy, just your regular budget accomodation which is relatively clean, in a safe area and run by pleasant people.

i wouldn't go so far to say that cambodia is a beautiful country...somewhere in the middle in my experience

...but what #1 said was idiotic... the people are mostly friendly & the 99% statement on fake money is completely overblown hyperbole

...but the beaches in cambodia leave a lot to be desired & the chances of getting your rented motobike ripped off if you don't pay attention is a reality...& they have more than their share of sexpats...especially now with thailand's visa changes

There hasn't been any noticeable change, and very few people have ended up moved here from Thailand.

You can't be serious, have a look at Sihanoukville now compared to 1 year ago or even Phnom penh for that matter - theres heaps more western deviates living here.

Another thing that should be stressed is the tourist trails are safe - don't apply this to the rest of Cambodia and especially after dark.
