Does anyone have guidance as to whether I can travel overland from siem reap to Virachey and/or mo duomo next week without traveling through Phnom Penh? I understand that between weather and roads, this might not be possible, but my 2012 app indicated that new east-west roads were under construction.

THANKS!

The question is, what is your mode of transport. I don't see why this would be a problem. There are many ways to travel from SR. Check out this link: hope it helps

No problem by road but can not say about weather

There is a poster named Nissey who does this fairly regularly and knows the details. Hopefully he'll see your post soon.

+overland from siem reap to Virachey+

Would this not be a simple bus trip from Siem Reap to Kampong Cham to Banlung, the gateway to Virachey National Park? No worry about the weather on these very beaten roads.

Upon arrival in Banlung, simply ask about a visit to Virachey National Park.

psst attn m2. "Nissey" is the owner of Norden House Yaklom Ratanakiri.

Maybe you have been spending too much time in the jungles? :-)

Not enough time in the jungles! Yes, I know Nissey. Nice guy, nice bungalows.

The road from Siem Reap to Banlung is now in excellent condition, paved all the way and the bridge in Stung Treng is finished and open. Minibuses do the trip in seven hrs or just under 088-7044499. have your hotel book for you as they speak Khmer only at this phone

#1 nisseyaklom, would there be a reason that Lonely Planet doesn't mention your place on their page?

No worry though. Readers here know were to stay in Banlung, no? Cheers,

Very strange indeed, I also saw that they don't mention Terres Rouge either. Norden House has been open since -07 and is one of the most popular hotel and restaurant in this area. if LP choose not to list us, it's their bad, we are doing fine,,,,

Would this be because Norden House Yaklom Ratanakiri is only steps away from the best fresh water swimming in the whole of Cambodia, namely at Yaklom Lake?

You also offer contact info for walks into Virachey National Park, contact info for a ride down the old "Death Highway" to Sen Monorom in Mondulkiri Province AND contact info for the crossing into Vietnam on the way to Pleiku. And of course you also offer the latest contact information about the fast way to get between Banlung and Siem Reap without having to go through Phnom Penh.

Maybe the Lonely Planet authors will include your contact info in their next guide book to Cambodia.
