I've been scouring the internet for info about a direct route between Kompong Cham and Siem Reap but can't find a definitive answer. Does anyone have any recent info as to whether there is a direct route between the two? Or am I going to have to go from Kompong Cham to PP and then onto Siem Reap?

All buses between PP and Siem Reap pas through Kompong Cham so you can just pick up a direct bus from there, no probs. I would think that most will leave in the morning or evening.
I disagree that all PP-Siem Reap buses go through Kompong Cham - However they do all go through the nearby town of Skuon.
I don't know if there is a direct Kompong Cham - Siem Reap bus, but if not, the trip will require a simple change to a different bus at Skuon.
There is a restaurant / toilet stop in Skuon where all the buses pull in. People change buses there to various destinations and its generally no problem.
Its highly unlikely you'll need to go via PP.
Dale is correct about buses from SR tp PP or vice versa. However there are at least three bus companies that go directly from Kampong Cham to SR.
Dale is correct on this, my bad. I just know that there were some direct buses as confirmed by #5.
There are several morning buses from KC to Siem Reap and vice versa. Phnom Penh Sorya is the best company; they have a 7.30am trip and a noon trip. All trips go through Skuon. They might require a bus transfer in Skuon. Be sure to ask and avoid these transfer buses if possible. Yes dogeatinghotchips the PP-SR buses pass through Skuon, not through Kompong Cham. Eat some spiders in Skuon. Total trip time is 5-6hrs right now. KC-Skuon is smooth. Skuon to Kompong Thom is an utter nightmare. Kompong Thom to Siem Reap is fine.
