Does anyone have info on the Kingdom Angkor Hotel (other than being 35US a night)? Any bit of news (i.e. good location) would help, thanks!

I've never heard of the place but you might as well be asking about the Kingdom Bayon Hotel, the Kingdom Apsara Hotel, the Kingdom Bayon Angkor Hotel, The Bayon Kingdom of Angkor Hotel, the Angkor Apsara Preah Khan Prince Angkor Hotel, the Angkor Princess Kingdom Bayon Apsara Royal Banteay Srei Angkor Royal Hotel, etc., etc.
The mere name sounds like it's any one the forty or so cookie-cutter monstrosities on the Airport Road that are almost exclusively used by Asian package tour groups.

hi,the kingdom angkor hotel is a new hotel in town, the rooms are large and is a 4 star rating,,i had dinner with the general manager last night, his name is mam chanveasna, really nice person..i have not stayed there but had a look around it has 120 rooms ,its close to town centre on national road #6 i was speaking to guests of the kingdom angkor on monday night and they loved the place,,they were from america on a 5 week trip ,i think they said they were flying back to the states this week but reckon the hotel was the best they stayed in,,,,there are quite a few new hotels in town offering very inexpensive accomadation. website for kingdom angkor www.kingdomangkor.com.

The promotional rate on their website says 65USD.

I looked at the website, it looks and presents itself exactly as all the other 3-star who claim to be 4-star Angkor Something Or Other Hotels along Airport Road. Probably be a great place to brush up on your Korean, Japanese, or Chinese language skills...

Okay... let me a bit more helpful, if you're traveling on your own and looking to drop around $35 or so a night check first with Villa Siem Reap for one of their better rooms, or Bopha Angkor Hotel, maybe Day Inn which you might get a room for under $50, or Villa Loti. If I were on my own any of those Airport Road monstrosities, no matter how many stars they claim to be (there is no official grading system so anybody can be anything they want and from the photos of Kingdom Angkor, this one ain't four star) would be the last place I would want to stay.

gorstar,go and have a look at a place before you pass your judgement,in your first post u got most of the names wrong anyhow, like where is the kingdom apsara hotel?do u mean apsara holiday hotel,or apsara angkor hotel?,the angkor princess,is actually called princess angkor hotel, some of the others u mention well they are just not there.,why are u so anti new hotels? i do agree that the bopha angkor is a great place, great management and staff, going there tomorrow for dinner,,i would not put the villa siem reap in the same class even through its well run with great staff..anyway its better to check out a place, but do so with an open mind,,

whattywhatty, please engage your sarcasm indicator, those names I tossed out aren't real names. It's a sarcastic statement aimed at the dozens of faceless indistinguishable monstrosities along Airport Road that are all more or less named as: Royalty Temple Hotel or some reasonable derivative thereof and are aimed almost primarily at Asian tour groups, and almost all of which claim 4-star status when in fact they deserve barely 3. Though I have not been inside the Kingdom Angkor I've been in plenty of others along the Airport Road and none have impressed me in the least. Why anyone traveling on their own would want to stay at one is beyond me.
I have nothing against new hotels. However, the large Airport Road hotels receive an enormous share of the package tour business, especially Asian, and I (rather obviously) find it quite hard to recommend any of them to an independent traveler.
I wouldn't put the Villa Siem Reap in the same class either, but if I can assume $35 is what the OP wants to spend, then it's not a bad choice for the money.

Thanks for the responses guys! I guess it would be better for me just to ask you what you hotel you recommend. I am traveling with my wife and this is our 1st time in South East Asia...1st time in Asia in general! So we are not looking to rough it our first couple days yet rather would like a place that could settle us in. That said, we are definitely not looking at staying in a luxury suite...Ha, ha I hope that makes sense! Thanks again!

it all depends on what you are comfortable with, there are a lot of hotels and guesthouses in siem reap, personnally i like the green village palace 15 rooms,$20 a night,bg pool, gym, air cond large rooms great setting good location and well managed, but you may not like the place, the only downside is the ensuites are a bit dated.but i dont spend much time in an ensuite,,the bopha angkor 40 rooms is also well managed and a great place to stay, beautiful setting, beautiful inside and out,,but i also like the newer ones the pacific hotel , the kingdom angkor, these are what i call luxury,,but at not luxury prices really these hotels should be 200 a night hotels, but as they are new they will keep the prices low,for a while anyway,,in siem reap there is an oversupply of hotels and guesthouses, from backpackers right up to luxury hotels, because of this oversupply [and when you come into town check out all the others that are being built] most are under priced for what you get..great news for the tourist, for me i like a good location within walking distance to old markets and pub street, love a pool, must be well managed, clean and good food air cond ect and there are plenty for around the 20 $ mark... checked out the LA guesthouse the other day large air cond rooms 1 min to pub street large ensuite, clean and well managed no pool but $10 a night, thats great value, have fun
