thinking about it for a few days I was wondering if someone here has a good tip to get from Kampot to Kratie in one day - as fast as possible, safe as possible. Does not have to be the cheapest option but Public transport would be nice :)
Our first idea was to go to Phnom Penh via Giant Ibis and continue from there -
But with whom ?

Hi, By public bus you have to go via Phnom Penh. The only bus option is Sorya Buses (near central Market) but the last bus leaves at 10:30am so you would have to stay overnight. This site is the best info for buses in Cambodia www.canbypublications.com. A private taxi would be kinda expensive probably $80+ I suppose you could get a really early taxi from Kampot to arrive in time for the bus to Kratie (like 4:30am - 5am).
Are Rithy Mony not plying that route anymore? They used to. Although Sorya aren't the most luxurious they get the job done.
There are (or were) several bus companies going from Kampot to PP unfortunately some are slow as go via Kep. There are also plenty of mini vans as well as share taxis so that part is no problem
From PP to Kratie I am not sure what time the last buses are so will leave someone else to answer.
If you look around in kampot you may well find a company offering the through trip (but with change in PP)
I think the only way to do it in a day with at least some public transport would be to get an early morning taxi from Kampot to Phnom Penh in time to catch a bus to Kratie. If you decide to use a share taxi I would strongly recommend that you book the entire front seat to yourself. Costs more but if you've seen how people get squeezed into taxis in Cambodia you'll understand why.

However they are morning departures.
There are conflicting times given for departure depending on which site you read. According to Sorya's own website they have a departure from Phnom Penh to Kratie at 10.45am and that's probably the one you should aim for.
