My Son, is a pretty nice day trip on a motorbike from Hoi An taking in the marble mountains, but its not a patch on Angkor and surrounds. If you do go there, get a good start in the morning to beat the day trippers, I had the place to myself but as I was leaving a convoy of buses turned up. Even then I think you are trying to go too far north, crossing from Mondulkiri you should be looking at somewhere like Dalat as a northern point, lots to explore in the delta region. Remember, sometimes less is more.

thanks for the tips! I really hope to see My Son but we'll see how travel goes and how tired we are. I'm very excited for motor biking :)

If you cross between Le Tanh and O Yadao, you're still a long way north. You could take a flight from Pleiku to Danang to get to Hoi An and My Son.

That was our hope however unfortunately the Pleiku airport will be closed between March and October 2015.

Dear #14, you CANNOT promote a business here like you have done. You can give advise but MUST NOT post like you have done.

It sounds to me at this point that you are still not really sure where you want to go - you only have 16 days and I think you need to make a firm decision - (a) are you going to spend the whole trip in Cambodia or (b) are you going to spend half in Cambodia and half in Vietnam?

This idea of doing a border crossing to Pleiku - to be completely honest - is a long way and takes up far too much travel time for a short trip.

If you really want to go to all of the places in your original list in Cambodia (Siem Reap, Phnom Penh, Kratie, Mondulkiri) it will use up pretty much all of the 16 days and there be no time left to go to Vietnam.

There is a direct flight from Siem Reap to Danang (near Hoi An) with Vietnam Airlines, which may be an option for you. Just come to Phnom Penh and Siem Reap then fly to Danang / Hoi An and spend the remainder around that central Vietnam area.
