Dawn Rooney is often mentioned but gets very mixed reviews.
Amazon throws up many but can anyone recommend a book they have found useful ?

I gave you an answer but it has disappeared ! National Geographic has published an excellent book and so is Ancient Angkor by an French expert of the temples, Claude Jacques; both are with suprenphotos and are for sale everywhere in the streets of Siem Reap and even in the temples

The posting is for a book SPECIFICALLY about Angkor Wat.
Ancient Angkor by M.Freeman/C.Jacqyes covers all Temples.

Well, good luck to find a book only on Angkor Wat, since it is a STAGE between the oldest ones (Rolouos and even before) and the more "modern" ones, thus you do not understand Angkor Wat if you do not read about what happened before and after in terms of architecture ! It is a WHOLE, not one temple in particular, even if it is the largest one (which it does not mean that it is the most astonishing !)

Thanks for your replies. Sorry for any confusion, I did mean Angor Wat as a whole and not just the one temple. I'm looking for a good dedicated guide book that provides enough information to enable me to get around the sites that interest me rather than just a section in a guidebook for Cambodia as a whole.

THere are many people selling guidebooks about the temple complexes at the sites themselves.

The books are paperback, well written and informative. Don't recall the name though.

On the back of the books, the price is listed as $35 but they area local prints and you can negotiate down to less than $10 for one of these books.

The whole area is known as Angkor, Angkor Wat is just one of the dozens and dozens of temples. Even if the most famous one. I liked some others better, actually.

Everybody is selling the Ancient Angkor book, a good one, do not buy from the first one for $15, but the third for something like $5...

@petrus - that's the book I was trying to think of. It's a well written book and a nice memory of the visit.
