Hi all,
I am planning to take tour 'roads to angkor' going from ho chi min city to Bangkok. I heard that the roads from cambodia leading to the thai border are very very bad and as i get car sick very easily, am wondering wether it is as bad as they say.
All travel advice re the regoin or intrepid tours will be greatly appreciated.
THANK YOU!!!

i do not get car sick, but travelled from sihanoukville to thailand in a van with a girl suffering from that, and she was really in a very bad shape. so try the boat (if that's no problem for you) or flying, because the roads are partially very bad.

The road from Siem Reap to the Thai border is an absolute shocker yes. As you're on a tour you might want to try and find some sort of medicine to help you with travel sickness as you're going to be bumping around the bus a hell of a lot.

It is not a pleasant trip to start with from Siem Reap to Poipet but if you suffer from car sickness then it will be a nightmare.
Check out talesofasia.com to find out the latest road conditions. I made the trip in June 2006 and found it much better than I thought it would be.

the road from siem reap to poipet is still in a bad condition,i do this trip by car every 6 weeks or so,last time about 3 weeks ago if its raining heaps than its adds a hour or 2 on your trip,if you get car sick and traveling by bus,i would organise a taxi from sr to border sit in front seat, than you can stop as often as you like for a chuck, than meet up with the tour at border cost about 45$

If you're getting share taxis don't forget they really, really pack people in!!!
You only get half a seat for the fare so maybe consider paying for two fares (ie 1 seat) and insist you sit up front (more comfortable but scary if you open your eyes). If you sit in the back you're 'double' seat will become academic.
