Should you encounter queues try to walk past them. There are several lanes for Thais and foreigners and Cambodian day trippers.
The luxury buses just around the Thai Farmer's Bank past Thai customs take you into Bangkok, I think they stop somewhere around Lumpini. The ones from the regular bus station stop at Morchit Northern Bus Terminal (but stop in Rangsit before that).

Thanks a bunch everyone.. did the run from Battambang today and it was quite smooth. Probably paid too much to get to Poipet ($5 in a shared taxi).. but that's partly because I didn't want to leave at 12 (on a bus from PP).

On the whole, I had a fantastic time in Cambodia.. and it was made much easier by the great help provided by all of you. Thanks so much.

9# I am well aware there are buses that leave from there but that is not what the O.P asked.
