Hello.
I am in Cambodia and looking to get a multiple entry tourist visa for China. In Phnom Penh, I am getting quotes of $190 from travel agents. I know the visa costs $140. My questions...1. Has anyone gotten it cheaper thru travel agents or is this the cost? $50 extra a visa seems outrageous but I am hearing that it can be a real nightmare with all the paperwork at the embassy. 2. I am also hearing that if you go to the embassy and are not Cambodian, they will not give you a visa. The travel agents only want your passport and a picture. 3. Does anyone have any recent info?
4. Would Laos be easier?
Thanks for any and all help. Happy travels.

Hello,
Fly to Hongkong! It is the gateway to China and the best place in the world to get a visa to China.

not sure about that.....is it still possible to get a multi-entry visa in hong kong?
pretty sure it was single entry only with the new visa laws, and would need to
get the multi-entry in the home country. if true, that extra $50 might be
well-spent if the agent can get you the multi.

Hong Kong isnt the easy place it used to be. There have been reports of people only getting 30 day single entry. Maybe contact someone like Forever Bright Travel asking what they can get you. And if you need flights in and out plus booked accommodation.

Oh sorry, I put it in the title of the post which you cannot see once you go into the post. I am American. Thank you everyone for your very valuable info. I have an email in to the agency recommended to verify about multi-entry visas. Happy travels everyone!

I went to the Chinese embassy in Phomn Penh. It is possible for foreigners (non Cambodians) to get Chinese visas there. $140 US for Americans. However, the best I could understand, you need an invitation letter and flight out. The person I was speaking to did not speak much English and my Khmer was worse. It takes 4 days. I had neither so I went to the Link travel agent (next to the night market on the main road next to river). For $185 US I got a two entry (30 days each entry) tourist visa. All I gave them was my passport and a passport picture. We did ask around and most prices were around $185-195. I just went with link because the hostel recommended them. In Hong Kong now and will be going to China soon. Will let you know if I have any problems. Happy travels everyone.

Congratulations for wasting 100 USD, despite the best advice you got on this forum.
You could get the same visa in Hongkong in 4 days for 80 USD.
congratulations for solving your problem in a timely and cost-effective manner! you only
paid $45 above the cost of the visa. plus you got a multiple entry visa, not guaranteed in
hong kong.....unless you pay an agency fee. you could have saved the cost of hanging around
for four days in expensive hong kong and would also have had three months to decide
how you wanted to get to china. overland via laos woulda been awesomely cool.
