hi guys, we are spending just over three weeks in cambodia and vietnam around christmas and new years, and just wondered if there are any suggestions / answers for: is christmas day likely to make any difference to the angkor temples being open or closed? and we want to be social for new years eve, but cant decide between somewhere like the beaces of sioukanville or HCMC instead?

See if you can get over to Phu Quoc then do it as that island is meant to be nice (close to HCMC). The beaches of Sihanoukville are nothing special and you'll find it hard to relax if that's what you're after. As for New Years, definitely HCMC over Sihanoukville.

HCMC is GREAT at Xmas! the place is totally decorated, see here for my favorite tree!

You have a lot of travelling ahead of you with Vietnam and Cambodia and only 3 weeks.

A lot will depend on where your itinerary will take you but Nha Trang in Vietnam for NYE is another good option.
