We are planning a 2 week trip in June to Thailand and hopefully making it over to an island in Cambodia. We are scheduled to have two days in Bangkok, and then travel north to Chang Mai for 3 days. After that, we have no plan but know we want to go to an island...somewhere!

Any suggestions on islands, and the most time efficient way to get there? We would LOVE to go to Cambodia, but are also open to other suggestions.

You can visit Phu Quoc island or Ly Son island. Ly Son island is best choice which is the Garlic Kingdom of Vietnam. Despite its small size island grow a lot of garlic: red and white. White garlic even is called the pearl of Vietnam. But also this compact island is full of ancient temples, beautiful mountains and beaches. The nearest major city to the island is Quang Ngai, that is 133 km far from Danang, 118 km from Hoi An and 395 km from Nha Trang.
Happy travels!

maybe let the nice people know a bit more about
your plans. where are you flying in/out of? can
you add another flight or two?

can you do the island before chiang mai? might
be more time-efficient seeing how close bangkok
is to the water. and cambodia.

what about thai islands? there are half a dozen
within easy reach of bangkok.

If i were you I'd skip Chiang Mai. The only thing there is old white men and funky coffee shops oh and a few temples. I was board there after1 1/2 days. So this'd give you more time for a nice Island experience in Cambodia. Koh Rong if you'r party animals, or Koh ta Kiev if you want to relax totally.
