due to all the border scams on the cambo side of the thai/cambodia border. noobs might weigh heavily purchasing a ticket from bkk to pnh on some cheapie airline prior to arrival. this will also solve your ticket out issues.

it just freaking never ends and seemingly gets worse.

well, i have always paid us20 but i speak a bit of khmer and have a few tricks up my sleeve but i have personally witnessed backpackers paying over odds and its a fact they WANT b1000 instead of the proper us20. add to this the new 'visa sticker scam' at koh kong (b1300) - reason for my post.

and us5 is being ripped off 25% btw, but you dont see things in such terms obviously.

So you are suggesting that people should incur the significant extra expense of flying to Cambodia rather than coming overland merely to save $5 or $10 on a visa at the border?

The border situation is now worse than I have ever seen. I crossed two days ago and was extreemely hassled.

It was mid afternoon and I was alone. My moto driver said the last two foriegners had settled for 1000 baht after a 1200 demand by these corrupt turkeys. I have a dozen old visas in my passport.

Thier process:
Took me into a room by myself with what looked like a military tribunal(these guys would fit nicely in the Khmer Rouge, very scary dudes)

I handed the first guy a twenty and he looked at me with contempt!" We only take Baht at this border, we no longer take dollars"so I showed the troupe my many stamps marked $20/ no avail. I kept foggin them with 20USD is price of visa. Many hate filled looks for me.

Thier last offer was $25(violating stoog #1's claim). I countered with will you give me a receipt?

Finally, the boss told me to wait outside. They let me set for 30 minutes or so. Then a storm trouper came out and asked for the twenty. I gave it he went inside and seconds later returned with my twenty which had developed a rip. It was purposely intact when it went in. Luckily I had 4 fives so I didn't have to pay in Baht.

My advice is that if you don't want a severe hassle get a visa before or an E visa.

Otto of Otto's Guest House in Koh kong said an official from the state came there from PP to shake things up, but as soon as he was gone it was business as usual.

Anyone have a website or Email address to protest this abomination??
