There will be a fairly tough trek to Virachey National Park's Yak Yeuk Grasslands beginning on January 12, 2015. Only a handful of foreigners have ever seen this place (less than 20, maybe fewer than 10). Me and a birder were the first actual tourists to be brought there in 2013, and it was the first time the Park ever arranged the trek for tourists. Before that, just a few NGO people. Yak Yeuk is not to be confused with the much more popular Veal Thom Grasslands trek in Virachey. For more information about Yak Yeuk, read this article, written by my birder partner Howie. Lots of good detail in there and a very smooth read.

I will not be on this trek, but a good friend of mine will and, of course, so will the Park rangers. There is a secret waterfall that drops away into a deep gorge that has never been explored (see photos in the link above) and if you do this trek, you can be sure that you'll be on one of the must rugged and remote treks of Southeast Asia. If anyone is interested, please PM me, or email me at: greg.mccann1@gmail.com

Hey Grey, I'll bear it in mind, I'm uncertain as to where I'll be in Jan at present, If I'm available I'd love to go after chatting with you and Henning about it a couple of years ago in Phnom Penh.

Dogeathinghotchips- I remember our converstion! Actually there will be 2 groups going out -one on the 12th and one on the 26th (but the 2nd one will be to a different area of the park -just as interesting and challenging). If January doesn't work, you could also go with the rangers in February or March to change the memory cards. Hope we can at least meet up in PP for a few beers.

No worries, I'll keep you posted and see where we are later in the year for a beer. Its an area I've not got up to yet and am definitely interested in seeing it for myself.
