I watched the first bit of the video (happy to have high speed internet at the moment). For those that don't have the access, it's about logging.

If the existence of logging in a country, even excessive and illegal logging, makes one not visit a country, one wouldn't visit most Asian countries (or the US or Canada or Brazil, or many other countries for that matter). Alazaskan, I understand from some of your other posts that you also visited Laos. There is massive (legal and illegal) logging in Laos too. And Myanmar, and Indonesia. Of course it is a problem, but like drugs, it's demand that is the problem. So long as there is demand for lumber, someone will supply it. Did you purchase any wood carvings while you were in Cambodia? Does your home have wood in it?

The video also states that "if logging continues at this pace, Cambodia's forest reserves will be exhausted by 2003". I am not an expert in forestry, so cannot say with certainty that forest reserves have or have not been exhausted in Cambodia, but when I visited Northern Cambodia in 2006, there were alot of trees.

It is understandable to lament the deforestation of previously natural areas. But visiting a country does not equate to supporting a country's logging policy. Just as not responding to a youtube video posted on a travel site does not equate to not caring about something.

Do you live in Cambodia, or did you 'superficially' visit it? Does posting a video about deforestation mean that your visit was more than superficial? Are you now working towards environmental protection in Cambodia, or is your current, and previous, post the extent to which you are working to save Cambodia's forests?

Your blog from 2006 notes:

As our plane made a nice long, low swoop over the Tonle Sap Lake before landing in Siem Reap in central Cambodia, the view from the window looked like Amazonia. A raging green forest floating on the largest lake of Indochina, a bird-watcher's paradise, an uncharted -or at least unblemished- jungle, a land of mystery.

Did you find the video after you visited 'Amazonia' in Siem Reap.

I ask because you are very accusatory towards pretty much everyone here (except one), so I assume you are doing something about deforestation in Cambodia besides posting youtube videos about it.

Dear OP

The original post that you refer to was less than informative in what it was about. I apologise because I didn't feel the need to look at it. I feel bad that I was not inquisitive enough to be intrigued by a post with such minimal information in it. I have trouble with youtube and so made another decision about not viewing this post. Once again I apologise for the great offense I have helped cause. I will immediately upgrade my connection to be able to view anything that you choose to post for me. I also hope my 6 superficial weeks in Cambodia this year can be forgiven, and I will try harder from now on, especially if I choose to return to Cambodia in the near future.

Yours faithfully

backon - Oooo, somebody's got the hots for me. I'm flattered that you still think about me and my old postings, but still, lying about long gone threads that can't be verified is very poor form, especially when you were so badly embarrassed before. If you want go over just how little you know about the subject once again, I'd be happy to accommodate you. But hijacking this thread because of your personal interest in me is also poor form. Make a new thread and I'll join you there hon. I promise to go slower and easier on you this time so that you can understand.

LoL fools, once again you show us you live in a world of delusions and arrogance.

Oh and btw, your current response, once again, shows your lack of consistency.

I too agree that the title of this thread is misplaced.

Global Witness? I wouldn't believe a word they said, they are completely politically motivated, Id be interested in finding out who pays for them.

I don't really think I'm selfish, superficial and unconcerned. Just because I can't be bothered to download the video in question overnight.
