Hi,

I arrive in Cambodia on the 31st July and am planning on leaving on the 16th August (have to catch a flight from HCMC, Vietnam on the 18th)

thoughts on this itinerary please:

Siem Reap, 3 nights
Battambang, 3 nights
Shianoukville and Koh Rong, 5 nights
Phnom Penh, 3 nights (pick up Vietnam Visa)
Mondulkiri Provence, (Sen Monorom) 2 nights
Leave for Vietnam via Snoul and spend 2 nights in HCMC.

I do have a list of activities/sights I want to do/visit in each place and I'm planning to take buses/minivans in the mornings and losing half a day travelling between towns (a full day lost between BB and Shianouk.)

I have visited SR and PP before so have a little knowledge on Cambodia but am I trying to squeeze too many places in over the 16 night?

General thought and advice will be appreciated,

Thanks

3 nights in Batt is 2 nights too long
3 nights in sr is 1 night too short

you do realize that travel eats up lots of time in Cambodia?
Batt to pp- shv is a LONG 9 hours if u can make a connection fast in PP

Give batt a pass an divide that time amongst the other places

Have to disagree with #1. Battambang is worth at least two nights and two days templing in Seam Reap was more than enough for me.

Battambang itself is not that interesting, but you can easily spend 2-3 days exploring the surrounding countryside. I spent one day cycling north of the city to Wat Ek Phnom, a small Angkor-era temple (about 10km each way). I enjoyed it more than any of the temples near Siem Reap, largely beacuse there were no other tourists.

Again, Sen Monrom is a tiny little town that is not worth visiting in itself, but is good as a base to visit some of the surrounding Bunong villages. I did an overnight motorcycle ride with a guide, to the interesting village of Dei Ey about 60km north of Sen Monorom.

Thanks for your thoughts and advice.

re Battambang, factoring in travel time to and from there I'll only actually have 2 full days, I want to have a cooking lesson, join a half day bike tour and a half day kayak tour so shouldn't be sat around looking for stuff to do.
re Sen Monorom I want to do a 1 day elephant trek (mondulkiri project) and maybe explore the countryside.

I may drop a day or two by the coast if timing becomes an issue.

When I was in Sen Monorom I did the one day elephant adventure tour with the Mondulkiri Project - I had a great day. Washing an elephant at a waterfall in the jungle was the highlight of my holiday in Cambodia. When in Sen Monorom a half day trip to Bou Sra waterfall is also a good thing to do.

Agree with everyone else, Battambang is definitely worth a few days. It's such a beautiful relaxed city and the sights outside of the city are amazing!
