In planning for our trip at the end of the month, I've done quite a bit of research into the pros and cons of taking anti-malarial drugs (Thorn Tree, CDC website, personal physician, and more). I've ended up with a 50-50 disagreement. I'm hoping that those of you with very recent or current experience on the ground can give me your opinions.
Our tentative itinerary is Singapore, Kuching, Batang Ai Nat'l Park, Lombok (base in Tetebatu w/day trips around the island) and Gili Meno. We will travel…

Now, I do know that Langkawi is a quiet island .. it's why I'm heading there ...
However! Since I'm on my own (and tend to get a bit bored reading so many books in one week) ..does anyone know of any bars on the island where backpackers tend to hangout ? I'm staying at the Pelangi and the Westin so near to there would be good..
Thanks

I am a backpacker and am looking for the cheapest but best value accomodation on those islands. I would rather not be on the resort islands but rather the ones running on generators that still have great scenery. So any information on which islands are the backpacker ones rather than resort ones would be great. Aswell any reccomendations on good…
I have posted a message on another branch of this tree, and as part of one of the replies, I read this sentence;
"I think the majority of travellers as opposed to tourists would hire a vehicle".
The person in question was very helpful so I'm not having a dig at him/her. However, I am intrigued that there is a distinction between a 'traveller' and a 'tourist'. Until recently, I was working in East Java but I took great pleasure in poking around the region at weekends. I considered myself a…
Hi - does anyone know any organised fishing trips in Borneo (from either KK or Sandakan)?

This is for a boat that has a capacity of 12 people - but there's only 2 of us, and they have said that if we want to fill the boat (pay less!), then it's our job to get more people.....
Also, we would have to book a week in advance. Doesn't sound very…
