In planning for our trip at the end of the month, I've done quite a bit of research into the pros and cons of taking anti-malarial drugs (Thorn Tree, CDC website, personal physician, and more). Now, I do know that Langkawi is a quiet island .. it's why I'm heading there ...

However! Since I'm on my own (and tend to get a bit bored reading so many books in one week) ..does anyone know of any bars on the island where backpackers tend to hangout ? I'm staying at the Pelangi and the Westin so near to there would be good..

Hi - does anyone know any organised fishing trips in Borneo (from either KK or Sandakan)?
I found a company on the net - Tanjung Aru Tours / Beach Bums Borneo - but it's RM 250 per hour (minimum 2 hours) for "bottom fishing" (not deep sea fishing). This is for a boat that has a capacity of 12 people - but there's only 2 of us, and they have said that if we want to fill the boat (pay less!), then it's our job to get more people.....

Have you been in August-September, how was the weather. Are there are places you would/wouldnt recommend to stay in the country. As far as i know Seminyak and Nusa Dua are the nicer areas whereas Sunur.
