Yogya to Bromo

Country forums / South-East Asia Islands & Peninsula / Indonesia

Hi Guys,

Am leaving for Indonesia for three weeks with my girlfriend in the next few days and we have most of our planns sussed out, but there are one or two things we're not so sure about, mainly regarding travelling between places, and would really appreciate some swift help.

First of all, how far in advance should one be booking for trains? if at all.

Also, and this is the biggest one, what would be the best way to get from Yogyakarta to Cemoro Lawang for Mount Bromo? And then how best to get from Bromo to Banyuwangi to get to Bali for the final part of our trip?

I'd appreciate any advice and help on this,
Lewis

The question is when you will be in Indonesia. As we are coming close to the start of ramadan (around 13th September) and the closer you'll come to Idul Fitri the more difficult it will be to catch trains, buses or fligths. If you are not there during ramadan then a couple of days in advance is sufficient most of the time.

From Yogya there are minibuses all the way to Cemoro Lawang to be booked in the touristareas in Yogya. From Bromo to Bali you can take a bemo down to Probolinggo and from there catch a direct bus all the way to Denpasar including the ferrycrossing.

Hi,

We are leaving for Bali in a few days, and when we get there, we plan to book a flight to Yogya. After we visit Borubodur, we plan to take the train to

Surabaya and then bus to Probolinggo -- from there transport via local bus to Cemoro Lawang. On the return we plan to catch the train back from Probolinggo and to Banyuwangi
1 . MUTIARA TIMUR
KA 79 Departs: 11.13 (Probolinggo) Arrives: 15.56 (Banyuwangi)

and then ferry and bus back to Denpasar.... We prefer the train option because its a long ride and you can get up and stretch your legs on a train.... not so easy on a long bus ride....
