Where in Manila do I get most PHP for my HK$? I was advised not to buy PHP with my HK$ when I arrive at Ninoy Intern'l Airport in Manila because of low exchange rates.
It's always advised not to change money at airports if you can avoid it but last time i arrived at Ninoy the atm's wouldn't accept my card so i was forced to change a little. I was surprised to see later that the rate didn't seem to be worse than elsewhere (i didn't go searching for the best rates though) | 1
I changed RMB at the Hung Hom train station when arriving from China this morning. At the same time, I checked the exchange rate for PHP, and compared to the exchange rate at Hong Kong airport. They sell 100 PHP for 1 HK$ more than at the train station, so here it was worse exchange rate at the airport. They sell 100 PHP for 19.4 or something HK$ (at the train station, it was about 18.4). Can you remember how much they sell PHP for at the airport in Manila? | 2
I already have changed enough for 2 days at Hung Hom train station in Hong Kong now. But do anyone know where in Manila to use the rest of my HK$ to buy more PHP? At a regular bank? Which bank? Or at a money changer at some big hotel, or on the street? | 3
was surprised to see later that the rate didn't seem to be worse than elsewhere (i didn't go searching for the best rates though) it's a bit of a myth that airport rates are necessarily bad. You're talking a difference of only pennies. Certainly no need to get into a great big lather about it. Unless you want to change a really large amount, it's not really worth the shoe or sandal leather. | 4
