Travel between cities

Country forums / South-East Asia Islands & Peninsula / Malaysia

Our itinerary is planned and hotels are booked. We sadly only have 10 nights in Malaysia and want to maximize our time there. Is it better to pre-book transport between cities or wait till we are in each location? It seems like there are plenty of express bus services available. Do hotels offer booking services like in Thailand or do you need to book tickets yourselves at bus terminals? Appreciate any feedback. Our itinerary is as follows:

3 x nights Penang

2 x nights Cameron Highlands

3 x nights Kuala Lumpur

2 x nights Melaka

then express bus to Singapore

Plenty of buses. And no need to pre book, for me anyway.

Your hostel/hotel can usually help you out with tickets,or you can just go to the bus station (or bus company office,or local travel agent) and buy your bus tickets there.

We've only ever prebooked at CNY. Otherwise we've just turned up at the bus station and taken the next bus The buses going to Malacca leave from various places around KL so you'll need to get to the right place. Here is a good place to start looking for buses throughout Malaysia. May be some variations but it does give a general idea.
