My (old) guidebook doesn't mention Subic Bay. Please tell me about transportation between Clark Airport and Subic Bay. Also if there are any decent priced hotels at Subic Bay. When I search on the web there are only expensive options. Is there any information about Subic Bay in the LP book about Philippines? I live +100 km from the nearest book shop. Thanks!

Ask about getting a taxi to San Fernando - about 20 kms from the Airport then get a Victory Line bus to Olongapo - I would hazard a guess that the taxi would charge around 600 pesos , a taxi direct to Olongapo would be I would guess 2000 pesos or the very cheapest option would be a taxi to Dau terminal - about 300 pesos then either a jeepney to San fernando or a bus to San fernando then on a victory liner as above- but these are not very frequent and can be crowded hence the suggestion of getting to San Fernando first | 2
Inexpensive way out of Clark is the following: From the airport walk out to the road, about 1 km and take a jeepney to the main gate, 9.50 pesos. Then from the SM Clark take the Dau jeepney, 7 pesos, and get out near the bus terminal. There are some Olongapo buses that pass through the terminal but they are very infrequent. Better is to take the local bus, the Tarlac-San Fernando route (stops on the road and does not go inside the terminal) to San Fernando, about 30 pesos. Get out at the intersection in San Fernando where all the Olongapo buses pass. | 3
The expensive places are inside SBMA (Subic Freeport). Cheaper hotels are either in Barrio Baretto, which is a little grotty and has a not-so-nice beach, or a little past on Baloy Beach, which is a bit nicer. I've stayed now and then at Johann's on Baloy beach, not bad. | 4
As soon as you get out the Clark zone, meaning you are at Dau and at the main road (MacArthur Highway), there are buses going to Olongapo. Other buses heading to Olongapo stop just off the road near the SM/Robinson area. There are also jeepneys from Dau to Olongapo (I've seen the signboard). | 5
