My partner and I are visiting Sabah in October this year. I am a bit overwhelmed with the options on what to do in such a short space of time. I want to make sure i see enough 'stuff' but also to have a holiday. We are in our 30's so do like the odd creature comfort (hot water...) but also are not rich so the 5* resorts aren't really an option.
I've got a rough itinerary in mind - can you let me know if it looks do-able and if there is anything I am missing?
15th – Leave Heathrow, London at 20:10pm
16th – Arrive in Hong Kong at 15:00pm
Spend the night evening looking round Hong Kong
17th –Day to look round Hong Kong
Any ideas welcome??
18th – Leave Hong Kong at 8:00am. Arrive in Kota Kinabalu at 11am
Afternoon and evening looking round KK
19th – Travel to Kota Belud in the morning and get a boat over to Mantanani Island
20th – Mantanani Island
21st – Leave Mantanani Island in the morning. Head back to KK and get the 5pm flight to Sandakan.
Spend the night in Sandakan or Sepilok? Any recommendations to which one? Any recommendations on where to stay?
(Alternative is to stay one of the TARP islands on the 19th and 20th – would that be better?)
22nd – Visit the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre
Are there other things I should do that day?
23rd – Kinabatangan River Cruise
Any recommendation on the best company to book this through? Should I book it before I arrive or when I am there?
24th – Kinabatangan River Cruise
25th – Go to Lankayan Island
It would be nice to spend a couple of days on a beautiful island, but neither of us dives. So a good beach, snorkelling and good food required. Is this the right island? Is it shockingly expensive?
26th – Lankayan Island
27th – Return from Lankayan Island. Get flight back to KK
(Alternative is to Leave for Sandakan on the 20th instead and then have an extra day on Lankayan)
28th – Visit TARP islands for day trip
If you recommend that I visit the TARP islands on the 19th/20th is there something better to do on this day?
29th – Leave KK at 7:55pm. Arrive at Hong Kong 22:50pm. Leave Hong Kong at 01:00am.
30th - Arrive in London Gatwick at 6am
