I don't know the first thing about renting a place in Singapore.

I would need somewhere handy to an MRT stop.

I don't mind old or HDB or whatever, as long as it is clean and the neighbours quiet. Particularly quiet at night, so nowhere near a whorehouse.

Any ideas?

I haven't seen the contract yet, but I think they are giving me SGD$500 per month for rent. I imagine that I will have to add to that.

Hi Harry.
Are you looking to rent a room or a whole flat?
For $500 you're only going to get a fully-furnished room within a flat (HDB).
For abt $1500 you can probably get a 2-room flat (ie 1 bedroom and 1 living room), fully furnished.

The last website may be a good place to start as it's especially geared for expats.
I'm not an expat myself, but a local and was looking to buy a new home so tt's how I know all these sites :-)

I am wading through Singapore expats, as I write this.

But if I can get a 2 room for only 500 more, then I would like that.

What about rent deposits and things like that? what more do I need?

(I have been to Singapore many times, btw, so I know what I am in for. I just don't know about renting.)

Hey, are your practising your Singlish oredy? :-)

Best to do more seaching coz there are plenty of units on offer.
Will you be working in town (ie Raffles Place area)?
If yes, best to get a place on the EW MRT line so you won't hv to change trains.

I'm not sure what are the regular terms for rental, I'm afraid
but most likely they will want deposit and rental fee a few months in advance.
Also watch out if the rent includes utilities, the link you gave stated that utilities are not included so
wld need to work out how tt's divided among the tenants.
The other sites I mentioned may have more listings under HDB.

I'm not sure where I will be. My family (wife's family, that is) live in Aljunied.

The company is called "I can read". (I can read and they seem to be all over the Island.

I will be working late afternoons and weekends, and so have two weekdays and the mornings to myself.

anyway, thanks for the tips, I'll be doing more research based on your advice.
