Hi everybody!
I'm flying into Bangkok on March 8th from Montreal. I plan on going to Chiang Mai to visit and then take the "Orient Express" train route from Chiang Mai back down through Bangkok, Malaysia and Singapore. From Singapore I would like to fly to Davao, where I want to spend some time and also travel throughout the Philippines.
I know that I can get into the Philippines with a 21 days tourist visa exemption. Also, I have to show proof of return or onward travel, so my ticket cannot be valid for longer than 21 days, right? Ok, so far, so good!
Now, if I want to apply for a proper tourist visa (59 days extension?) I can do so while I'm in the Philippines. Great! ...but what happens to the plane ticket that I bought in Singapore? Does it become useless? Remember, when I get into the Philippines with a 21 days visa exemption I have to show a return ticket within 21 days and now I will need a new plane ticket to reflect the new dates on the visa.
I can also apply for a student visa while I'm over there because I just don't have the time do do this here. I live quite far from any Philippines Embassy.
Thank you for the feed back and I hope to meet some of you good people over there!
Gaston

No worries about the date on the ticket. It won't make a difference.
The Philippines is an easy place to deal with as far as visa extensions and entry requirements.

No need for the return ticket to be within 21 days. Just get it for the date you want to leave, even if this is months later. You are right the first visa extension is from 21 to 59 days, costs 2020 pesos.
If you do a search on this branch you will find a lot of info on visa issues. The search function has been updated and actually works now.
