Perenthian Islands-- weather good now?

Hello,
I am 'stuck' in the rain on Phi Phi Island in Thailand right now. Doesn't look like it will let up anytime soon, so we are thinking of going to the Perenthian Islands to hopefully get some sunshine.

- Is the weather good there right now?

- How exactly do I get there from Thailand? I'd like to not have to overland through the conflict area in southern Thailand-- can I fly to Penang or KL and then go overland or is there a faster way?

- Any 'flashpacker' hotels that you can recommend on either of the Perenthian Islands?

Thanks in advance! Rain happens, but we'd like to avoid it as much as possible.

closest airport is khota bahru.
you may have to go thru KL to get there - not sure..

maybe firefly from phuket?

Firefly flies from Phuket to Penang and from Penang to Kotha Baru (or you can get a bus from Penang, takes about 6 hours ? could have been eight? don't remember, check it). Lots of nice places on both islands, depending on what you are after...

Fly Phuket-Penang. Get the public bus to Sungai Nibong main bus station, 15mins from airport. Lots of bus going to Kota Bahru. The bus ride takes about 6-7, sometimes 8 hrs, depending on weather condition and bus age. Anyway, the journey is not bad. You get to cross Penang bridge, view Royal Belum Rainforest, Temenggor lake and rural parts of Tanah Merah. You may even spot a family of elephants crossing the Grik - Jeli highway. Perhentian is sunny this time of the year. "Flashpackers" can choose and book rooms at the many kiosks and travel offices located in jetty Kuala Besut. I usually do that.

do u know when the sunshine ends in perhentians? my plans changed and I might only be able to visit the place around september..will it be ok weatherwise then?

it should still be okay in September as the monsoon only starts in November.

I am just back from the Perentians; wheather was fantastic! Everything else also; enjoy the islands.
