Options from Flores (Labuan Bajo) to Tanjung Puting National Park

Hi,

I am planning a trip with my partner around Indonesia and we are struggling to find an economic way to get from Labuan Bajo to Pangkalan Bun. I've seen a post related to this but it's 6 years old and things might be different. Do someone know the options we have to get there? Besides this, can anyone recommend a tour in Tanjun Puting National Park (mainly to see the orangutans) and around Kalimantan?

Hi Nuno,

I think the only one-stop possibility from Labuan Bajo Airport to Pangkalan Bun Airport is via Jakarta. However, there is no airline that flies on both routes, so you would need two separate bookings. Also, the flights to PKN from Jakarta depart too early, so you would need to spend a night in Jakarta.
- Garuda GA453 from Labuan Bajo (14:40) to Jakarta-CGK (15:50)
- NAM Air IN190 from Jakarta (6:40) to Pangkalan Bun (8:00)
- Trigana Air IL708 from Jakarta (9:25) to Pangkalan Bun (10:35)
- Kalstar KD720 from Jakarta (15:40) to Pangkalan Bun (16:55)

There are several two-stop options, with transits in Denpasar AND Semarang OR Jakarta. However, also these will take at least 16 hours and probably including a night in Jakarta or Semarang. I would go for the first option, flying Garuda and NAM, and including a night in Jakarta. For a random date about one month in advance I get a price of about 3 million rupiah (2 million for the first flight and 1 milion for the second).

Labuanbajo is popular, and tends to have Flores' most expensive flights. If you plan on traveling elsewhere in Flores, you could look at flights out of Ende or Maumere as well. Though that might involve more changes.
