Nice Beach area in Singapore

Country forums / South-East Asia Islands & Peninsula / Singapore

Good Morning

Quick question. Can anyone out there recommend nice beach areas on Singapore? By nice I mean nice clean beaches, clear water, mid range to high end hotels, not crazy crowded, but accesible to good food. Not looking for nightlife so much as for relaxation.

Thanks. Doug

Doug, there is no beach matching that description in or even very close to Singapore. Singapore is a really nice destination but it's not known for its beaches. How far are you willing to travel?

The closest would be the high end hotels in Sentosa island. But no white sand or clear water. Beach won't be crowded on weekdays.

If you are willing to travel, best to go to neighbouring Malaysia.

Thanks guys:

I got an email from friends now on Bali who are visiting SEA for the first time who asked about beaches on Singapore. They go there next. I have never looked for any beaches on Singapore and wondered if anyone knew of one as described. I appreciate the replies and will tell my friends. Perhaps they will look for beaches in Malaysia and/or Thailand where, if they decide to go, at least I can recommend some. Thanks again. Doug

East Coast of peninsular Malaysia is currently in the middle of monsoon season.

Tioman is closest. But don't know what the weather's like now. Don't remember what the beaches were like on Bintan or Batam. In fact don't remember which one I was on.

I wouldn't go near the water in Batam. That whole island is an ecological disaster. Its in the middle of the busiest shipping lane in the world and is covered in factories. When I crossed it by boat, the sea was a slimey green color. I bet you would melt in that water....

Not Sentosa. Horrible tacky tourist place.

the only spot i can think of will be Changi Beach

its not great, but its clean, clear water, not crazy crowded
and with 10 mins access to excellent hawker food
no nightlife to speak off, apart from some uncles in the quiet bars around Changi Village

great spot also for a bicycling

Your best bet will be the Shangri la Hotel on Siloso beach on Sentosa Island. At least its quiet on the weekdays and the sand (imported from Indonesia) is fine and raked every morning. The planted palm trees are lined up and the entire island rather plasticky. This is as good as it gets. Singapore is not a beach holiday destination.

Take the ferry over to Desaru/Malaysia. Decent quality hotels and yellowish long beach mainly all for yourself.

Or ferry over to the resort belt of Bintan/Indonesia. Relatively good quality of beaches (whitish) and fairly decent water quality. Don't expect low prices though, even budget stays like Mana Mana nowadays cost an arm and a leg.
