Hi can someone tell me if someone travelling on a Philippines passport needs to show a bank statement or cash or a major credit card when arriving in Kuala Lumpur from the Gulf to obtain a visa-on-arrival? And how much cash do they need to show? Do they need an onward ticket out of Malaysia too? How long a visa-on-arrival can they get?

cheers

Filipinos do not need any visa at all to enter any ASEAN country. With Malaysia, like Thailand, Singapore, and Indonesia, they get a 30 days visa-exempt stamp. With Vietnam and Cambodia, it's 21 days visa-exempt. Brunei and Myanmar, 14 days.

I honestly don't know if you need an onward ticket, but I'd find out if I were you because if you do, you might not be allowed to board the plane.

I think the best thing may be to call up, or better still go to their desk, of whatever airline it is that is flying you to KL and ask them if you need an onward ticket. After all, they will be the ones that won't let you on board if you do need one, and don't have one.

OP, what visa when staying in the Gulf? Work, transit, tourist?
As above, the problem may arise on checking in the Gulf.

Depending on the immigration officer on duty, you might be asked to show proof of onward journey when arriving in M'sia & other supporting documents.

My Indonesian daughter in law entered both Singapore and Kuala Lumpur as easily as my son and I who had a visa exemption. Think she just went to different Immigration queues.

I think ASEAN passport holders are visa-exempt to all the other ASEAN countries now. At one time, like maybe 5-6 years ago, Filipinos were visa-exempt to NEARLY all of them, with Filipinos still needing a visa for at least Myanmar and maybe one or two more. But now that's changed and Filipinos are visa-exempt to all of them, although they are allowed either 14, 21 or 30 days depending upon which country it is.
