How early to apply for extension?

My 60 day bought visa expires on a sunday so am looking at applying for an extension 12 days ahead of time.
In Maumere.

Is that too early?

This varies from office to office but generally should be OK.

How do I get one?

Yes, you do need a sponsor.
Any local person should do.
If you just can't make a friend, try asking at your hotel.
