HELP Bangkok, Koh Phangan, Koh Samui, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore in15 DAYSCountry forums / South-East Asia Islands & Peninsula / Malaysia
Hello all.. Currently planning our 15 day (roughly) honeymoon through south east Asia. I don't know if I am trying to squeeze to many locations in such a short period of time. Flying from NYC to Bangkok on august 18th (landing bkk 08/20 12am). Looking to stay in Bangkok 08/20-8/24 (4nights) see the city etc. Then fly to Suranthai (Asia air) and make our way (ferry) to Koh Phangan 08/24, and staying in Koh Phangan 08/24-08/28 (3 nights), then over to Koh Samui for 3 nights 08/28-08/31. From Koh Samui well ferry back(5am) to Suranthai and fly to Kuala Lumpur(asia air), spend 2 nights in Kuala Lumpur, then fly to Singapore. Spend the next day/night in Singapore. Then fly back to US from Singapore. Is this too much traveling for a honeymoon? Should we spend more time on one of the islands relaxing or maybe an extra day in either Kuala Lumpur/Singapore? In Short: Bangkok- 4 nights I Have never been to Asia, and put this together simply by looking through tripadvisor/blogs etc and figured I might as well post my plans and see what the "experts" think. Any and all suggestions, including excursions, dining, things to do would be greatly appreciated. Priced/picked hotels for all locations. From what I have read/seen Asia Air has some really great prices for flying. Haven't looked much into Kuala Lumpur/Singapore.. was merely a means to the Marina Sands hotel before flying back to US (chance to see another city instead of Bangkok before flying home). Thanks in advance!!
Hi Kevin, It does sound a little fast if you ask me. Why not stay in one beach location only instead of travel to two? I would pick Koh Samui as I wouldn't like to be with the Full Moon Party crowd on my honeymoon, but that could be different for you. The days in BKK, KL and SG sound about right to me as you'll need BKK to recover from your jetlag a bit. Enjoy your honeymoon! Pauline | 1
Agree with #1 Too hectic for a honeymoon. One beach will be more relaxing and I think Ko Phangan is the better option but others on this forum would be better informed than me as I haven't been to either for a long time. Time spent in KL and Singapore sounds right to me. KL is a big city these days with lots of new infrastructure and shopping malls but with not a great deal to interest the short stay visitor. Singapore, apart from Little India and a few other spots, is a pretty soulless, commercial hub these days. Lots of people on the go, keeping busy, keeping their heads down and their noses clean so as not to offend the authorities. Be warned: don't bring chewing gum into Singapore as its sale and consumption is banned. One of the best things about the 'Island State' is leaving it. | 2
Agree on the islands...not much point doing both in such a short time. I'd also pick either Singapore or KL...unlike Merantau I prefer Singapore but depends on what you want to do there. Three stops in 2 weeks is fine for me...especially for a honeymoon....I'd do 4 nights Bangkok,1 week on the beach and last 2 in Singapore. | 3
You'll be disappointed with Koh Samui after Koh Pha ngan. There are many lovely laid back beaches on KPG. Simply Enak has never been there or didn't venture out of the party zone which is Haad rin and has a totally crappy beach. If you only went there you would never want to go to KPG again. Some good beaches are Than Sadet which has a waterfall out the back, Bottle Beach and Thong Nai Pan Yai (not noi.) I would choose one island and settle in for the week. | 4
I agree with Moi2 I would definitely pick Koh Pha ngan over Koh Samui. I found Koh Samui to be VERY touristy. you can always travel around the isalnd of Koh Pha ngan if you don't want to stay in one location and do a trip to Koh Tao...or go straight to Koh Tao if you want to be in an even more relaxed environment. | 5
If you're a diver Koh Tao is a good destination. If you are a swimmer KPG is better. | 6
Less time in KPG and more time in Samui! It's a little more touristy but less of the riff raff that you will encouter in KPG... | 7
