Direct connection from Labuan Bajo to Manado

Country forums / South-East Asia Islands & Peninsula / Indonesia

I was trying to find out if there is a direct connection from Labuan Bajo/Komodo to Manado (I would like to avoid to have to pass by in Makassar), either by plane or by ship but couldn't find something useful really. Like on Pelni's website, there isn't even Manado on their list of the ports they are going to - is that correct?
Thanx very much in advance!!

There is a Pelni route connecting Labuhanbajo to Bitung (for Manado), but it's a loooooooooong trip (5 days) and passes through Makassar anyway.

Labuhanbajo has a small and tricky airfield (with cows) that accommodates smaller planes, with lots of cancellations. It's often a crapshoot getting back to Denpasar, say nothing about a direct flight to Manado.
Most flights to Manado stop over in Ujung Pandang, but that's not a horrible hardship.

The boat trip to Bitung is indeed long, and pretty uninspiring, and in any higher-class cabin, it won't save you much money. However, you could catch an overnight boat (Pelni) from Labuhanbajo to Makassar, and fly on from there.

There is no easy way from Labuanbajo to Manado.

#3, I think you mentioned the best option - going from Labuan Bajo to Makassar by boat and then by plane to Manado. Thanx!
