Cheap & decent hotel near Hawker StallsCountry forums / South-East Asia Islands & Peninsula / Singapore
I have one day and Night in Singapore, and I want to be close to the culinary freak out. Does anyone have a suggestion of a clean and decent place to stay that is near the food hawker stalls? I would like something in the $40-$50 USD range. Thanks!
There are lots and lots of hotels in that price range and wonderful food is to be found everywhere in Singapore. I'd suggest you study your guidebook, find a hotel (reservations aren't necessary in the last couple of years and 'walk in' prices will be far better than you'll find on the internet) and check out the city, on foot. The food part of it will take care of itself...... For hotels in your price range, I'd suggest you check out Little India, the Bugis area. | 1
We havent been to Singapore for a while but there were hawker centers wherever there was a shopping center and at some accommodation blocks for residents. | 2
Yeah, the food courts are usually nice and there are a lot of them. You can see the food and there's always a great selection. By the way, your price range for hotels is a little on the low side but the last 2 times I was there, they were really 'wheeling and dealing' in the areas I mentioned. Specifically, I'd recommend you check out the Strand Hotel and it's next door neighbor, the Hotel Bencoolen. I've stayed at both, a number of times, and they're pretty decent. There are others nearby. The City View, across the street is out of your price range. The Summerview, down the street, is quite nice but a little more expensive than the first two I mentioned. | 3
Hotel 81 or Fragrance Hotels are cheap and clean and in your price range. | 4
try the Haising hotel in the Bugis/little india area lots of food stalls around and is in your price range i have stayed there many times | 5
My favourite hawker centre is in Aljunied, and you will get a very interesting hotel in nearby Geylang. | 6
C'mn Harry. I would not advise Geylang as a base of operation. Great food but the nightlife is a little too risquey. (Smile). | 7
exactly, #7. ;-) It was a joke. OP, Geylang is the red light area, or one of them. there are many. Edited by: Harry_Mudd | 8
