best route to Penang & Melaka from Hanoi, VN

Seems like the shortest route is a flight Hanoi - KL, bus KL - Melaka, bus Melaka - Penang. I don't want to stay overnight in KL unless a short wait at the airport for flight connection.
Are there flights from Hanoi to Penang?

What's your budget actually? If you are talking about AirAsia, I'm afraid you have to fly to KL. If you take MAS, there are connecting flights to Penang, but it would be unreasonable if you are on budget.

For your info, the journey from KL to Penang takes about 5 hours (about RM24) and KL-Melaka takes around 2.5 hours (Less than RM10).

Take the Transnasional bus as it's the quickest. KKKL is not bad (KL-Melaka) as it has guaranteed 3-seater new buses, but once it reaches Melaka (after the Toll plaza) it takes a different route (housing areas) to the bus station.

The Melaka-Penang journey takes around 7.5 hours (about RM34)... Since you'll be taking this long journey (if you intend to take the bus), you might need to think through whether you want to go to Penang or Melaka first...

thanks for your suggestion. AirAsia has good fare HN - KL. After reading so much about pickpock and taxi scams in KL on other forums, I am afraid of KL. Transfer from KL airport to sentral about 1 hour. Air Asia has morning flight arriving KL at 1:40pm, if no delays and i am lucky i might be able to get on a bus to Melaka. MAS is too expensive, $400US HN- Penang connecting in KL.
