bali versus thailand at the moment ???

Country forums / South-East Asia Islands & Peninsula / Indonesia

Hi - off in a week to Bali with my niece ........this recent shake has given me second thoughts, we went through major earthquakes in our city a couple of years ago so bit stressed over them. If anyone is on the ground over there I'd be keen to know how bad the aftershocks are ? and would you advise going elsewhere ?? ...Bangkok is a contender but I it's the rainy season, not sure if that is a huge issue or not ?? would love any comments or advice.

The earthquake was in Lombok, but felt in Bali and as far as Java. I am in Ubud right now and all is fine, but Lombok of course is suffering. I felt one aftershock that was very light about an hour after the first and possibly some light rolling but could be attributable to me moving in my chair.

I don't think you need to be overly worried about Bali in particular, everywhere in the world might have their challenges and if you have already booked a trip I don't see a need to cancel at this point
