Hello,
My girlfriend and I are hoping to travel to Borneo in Jan/Feb and we are not sure what part of borneo to fly into or to travel to. What we really want is a very cultural experience and perhaps more importantly we want to see orangutans. We are looking to spend up to around 15 days or so in borneo and surrounding areas.

That's nice to hear. You can choose some international hotels just to be sure of better service. If you want, you can drop a visit at Bali Island to top your trip. It would be sure worth it.

I'd suggest you fly into Kota Kinabalu, Sabah if you are looking for Orangutans and explore from there, there is loads to keep you busy. Sepilok, Sandakan, Kinerbatangan river, semoporna, turtle island longhouses, mount Kinabalu etc ...

For culture head to Kuching and perhaps to the Rejang river until Belaga after that. You can see orangutans in Semenggoh near Kuching:

To see orangutans in a more natural setting (Semenggoh has semi-wild orangutans, i.e. orangutans which have been reintegrated into the wild) go to the Kinabatangan river in Sabah:

Should you decide to base yourself in Sabah (Kota Kinabalu) rather than Kuching, you can see some longhouses in Bavanggazo, about two hours by car north of KK:

The Bawanggazo one is of the Rungus people, were well maintained in the original state and it's even possible to stay overnight.

once u get to bali u can search for "perama" office, it s making most of tourist services about transport, they have many bus and few boats to different destinations, they also have the three days boat trip to komodo that u can book on the spot, it s not cheap but its hassle free and lot of travelers on it to share fun with. u can also fly to labuanbajo (town in flores island, front of rinca-komodo) but i suggest to use it as the way back if u won t dare to boat back. if u re planning to be there july or august be ready to find everything full booking, so plan in advance byeee

I just got back from Sarawak ... this guy was recommended and was fabulous. He'll arrange anything from picking you up at the airport to full trips to Longhouses hours away from all the touristy ones. Really nice guy and knows his stuff ( loads of Intl people in Singapore use him ) Bob "bob zakaria" <bobzakaria1@gmail.com>,

He picked us up in Kuching, dropped us at the jetty for Bako National park and put us on a boat up to he park- also booked our accomm in advance for us. Told us how to arrange the return trip... Bako is worth a few night stay.

we went back to Kuching then 1/2 day made our own way to Orangutans , although organizing a driver is also cheap and easy . It's about $1 to enter the Sanctuary ... astounding , we saw about 15 , and one big male ...

Bob will give you loads of advice if you need it ,
