Hi

I am going to Singapore for a wedding in May and want to do a side trip and am looking for any advice. I was hoping to make 2 side trips but I only have about 4-5 days so not sure how realistic that may be. My 2 questions are

#1 What are the MUST SEES in Singapore?
#2 What are some close by side trips that are relatively cheap and amazing to see.

I am looking for culture, life, and beautiful things. I do not want the big city or resort traveling options

thank you!

It may be a little rushed for side trips. The few notable sidetrips that i can think of are Malacca and Tioman and both take several hours to get to one way.

As for Singapore, I think the roofgarden of Marina Bay Sands is a must.

I also love the night safari

have a nice trip!

Malacca would fit the bill but for 4-5 days?

Someone had mentioned going to Angkor wat in Cambodia....and after looking at pictures and some info I am pretty much sold on this as a side trip....im wondering if anyone can suggest places to stay (that they have been to and enjoyed) any places to eat or anything in that area that is amazing, cheap, and safe.

Thanks!

#1 makes some good suggestions. Add in Sing Botanical Gardens.

Angkor Wat is a must see place. Temples blow your mind.

There are huge range of places at all levels of price from $6 to a few hundred a night. We stayed at Hanumanalaya http://www.hanumanalaya.com/
located a couple of kilometres from downtown. Really nice place with small pool and in 2008 was around $70/night for the two of us.

Travelfish is another great site for inns/guesthouses.

Have been to Angkor Wat and one day was enough for us. we picked the temples we thought would be most interesting.
And #6, before you start jumping up and down, the length of time anyone visits Angkor Wat is purely subjective. Its not everyones cup of tea. Some like us have had enough after a day, others could stay a week and still want to go back.

Why would I jump up and down? Three days work for us but each to their own.

Was in Singapore last week. The Botanic gardens as quite nice to have a wander through. Right in the city but gets you away from the city for a few hours. National museum of singapore was pretty interesting. That's coming from someone who doesn't like museums! Nice views from the flyer too.
