this free tour organisation would be very apt for your ''real singapore experience!

Hi,
You almost have the same schedule as I had last month in Singapore and Bali (only I had 2 days less in Bali). Your schedule certainly is doable.
The first day you might be tired, unless you can sleep enough during the flight.
If you want to have a view over the city then chose Marina Bay Sands. The view is great! At 10am you can get a 15 minute free additional guided tour to the swimming pool area. Usually that only is for people who stay in the hotel. It's also nice to see. We've been to the Singapore flyer in the evening. More 'romantic'. Also a boat cruise (Hippo tours) in the evening is nice. It's 30 minutes and you have a nice view on the skyline.
If you've enough time and like parks, then visit the Chinese & Japanese Gardens. You can get there by MRT.
We stayed at V Hotel Lavender. It's on top of the MRT station and a food court. In the morning you can get a cheap breakfast there. The hotel is fine. It's a bit more expensive than the budget hotels, but you also get more. There is a swimming pool to fresh up and rooms are clean.
Enjoy your trip.

8 Days in Bali is enough time to explore Bali and Gili, you can book boat to gili when you in Bali. There are alot of tours and activities you can do in Bali like volcano tour, white water rafting, cruises and many more. Or Hire car and driver for day tour normally they will give you good suggestion what to see :)
Hv a great holiday
Porcelain Hotel is one of the recommendations in my ebook travel guide for travellers. =) You can check it out on Amazon or Smashwords.com
I think your itinerary is great. Remember though that you arrive at 7am, and most Singapore check-ins starts only at 2pm. You should arrange for a transit hotel to rest (which you'll defnitely need after your long flight) or arrange with the hotel you're staying in for an early check-in (probably a half-day's charge and subject to availability of rooms).
You will absolutely love Bali. If not Ubud, stay in Kuta - it's the most happening place. It's okay to snorkel as you can ask for a lifejacket for your boyfriend, and he can also try surfing at kuta (just don't head too far out). Diving may not be a good idea if he's not comfortable with it.
Next to kuta is legian street where the clubs are. it's not as happening as clubs in Singapore, but you'll love Bali for the illegal things you can get. =)
In Bali you need a driver's license to ride or drive, so if you don't have them it's best to stay somewhere very accessible, like Kuta. Of course, if you choose to go on tours, this wont be a problem at all.
Hope that helps! =)

Hi everyone,
Thank you so much for all your help and advice so far, it has been very helpful.
Think we are sure what we want to do in Singapore but are still a bit unsure about Bali. We have some time this weekend to really get planning as we only have just over a month until we go!!
As we are going for such a short period of time, I would like to have accommodation etc booked before we go to save us having to do it when we are there. Lots of people have mentioned Kuta but with mixed advice. We are in our 20's but not really wanting to party every night. Do people recommend staying in one area and going on day trips or staying in a few different areas and moving around? Which areas would people recommend as essential to see whilst we are there?
The things we would really like to do are:
- The Bali arts festival which is in Densapar is on whilst we are there
- Ubud: rice fields, temples & maybe a nice spa
- Nice beach to chill and maybe learn to surf - wheres best but not too crowed?
- Temples: which are the most impressive?
- The gilis probably for 2 nights. we have looked into the fast boats to get there, any recommendations on places to stay & whether to book the boat in advance. Would love to do a snorkelling trip whilst we are there
- Also interested in any recommended tours? maybe elephant rides etc
Also am I right in thinking one of the best ways to get around is hiring a driver. How do you go about this, is it just best to organise this when we arrive.
Sorry for all the questions but I really feel a bit unprepared considering how soon we are going, any help would be MUCH appreciated.
Exciting times

Hi Frannieleah, I'm not in much of a position to give you advice on Bali, as I am planning my own trip there in July, so I'm in the same boat!
However, I have found a place called the Elephant Sanctuary and Lodge just North of Ubud, and I'm planning to spend a night or two there when I'm there, check it out, I think it may be right up your street if you want elephant rides.
Other than that I've decided to spend a few days in Ubud, and perhaps a day hiking the volcano, and then a couple of nights on Sanur beach because the advice I got from others on here is that its a nice relaxed beach. I've also been told that you don't need a driver, Bali is small enough to get around by either taxi or bus. Your other questions I can't help with I'm sorry as I'm still researching myself, but I hope what I've found out so far can help you a bit.

Thanks Mike, I'll check out the Elephant Santuary! How long are you going for?
Where abouts is the volcano you are thinking of going to? I'm also thinking of Ubud def for a few days.
Good luck on the rest of your planning too
Fran

Thanks! We're spending a little over a week in Bali then heading onto Indonesia. I know the elephant sanctuary does tours from Ubud but you can stay there as well if you choose. The volcano is Gunung Batur, and its in the NE. It's pretty close to Ubud apparently, so I'm still unsure wether I can do the trek as a trip from Ubud or wether to stay in one of the villages a little closer to the volcano. But a few days in Ubud alone is an absolute must I think, at least for us.
