For instance, when you visit in June, do check if the Oceanarium is finally open. It is supposed to be the world's biggest aquarium of something like that. Lots of lots of new tourists stuff in sg!

Thanks a lot. I will definitely use the list you gave me. I'm travelling with my 82 years old father (old backpacker, ha, ha) and we are not so much into the "new" things but interested in the old way of life. I know, everywhere in the world modern times are coming up... How is Batam or one of the other small islands? And what about a trip to Melaka?

one way to find singapore's uniqueness is to follow your tummy , by looking for places with good food , theres gotta be some bit of histoy in it . and also good food means , long history and definatelly a great way to start exploring singapore's culture.
hope you enjoy your visit here :)
Getting to Borneo from Singapore...will need some planning... These are not areas that have a lot of tourist traffic... Not all airlines service these markets...do your research well in advance...and remember that daily flights may not be available from where you want to go in Kalimantan...which is in Indonesia...and of course you need to by a visa for Indonesia...You may need to look into smaller local carriers... Perhaps Malay Borneo would be easier to fly to from Johor Malaysia...with a Malaysian air carrier.....?
As to Singapore...lots to do...they love to shop and eat here... the Main museums to visit or the Asian Civilizations Museum and the Singapore History Museum... The Metro can literally take you all over the island...from end to end...not just the city of Singapore itself...so there may be somethings to see in the hinterland...?
just came back from sabah ! took air asia from singapore, 2 and half hours flight.
lots to do in singapore, depends on your preference and budget.
you could look up [singuides.wordpress.com] when in sg.
enjoy

If you are into old things - stay in Geylang! It is like Singapore was long time ago.And you will
save money, hotels are plenty and cheap, there are backpackers hostels as well, try to find
dvd with movie:"Saint Jack",your father will love it.In Geylag stay in heritage style small hotel
on the corner of GeylangRd and lorong26 exactly,entrance from GeylangRd.Another - 100mtrs
away on No45 lorong27,I think, the cheapest option in Singapore - nostalgia place for your Dad.At the other end of lorong27,near metro track, there is backpacker place - SG98 Hostel.
.You can go further through Indonesia,
from TanahMerahFerry Terminal go to TanjongPinang,it is trip back in time, from Batam you will find transport to Kalimantan by ferry or flight.PulauPinang is island next to Batam.
cheers!
