Hi, i just wanted to post an article i recently published in Lonely Planet India Magazine on Bintan, a delightful island just 45 minutes away from Singapore. If you are looking for short trips it might be a good idea to consider this. (And if you know of Bintan but think only Lagoi Bay is where you can go, think again. You can read the full text on my blog: http://babelbabblebubble.blogspot.com/

I got a lot of people clicking through for Bintan, so, encouraged, i am posting something on Singapore itself. This was also published in Lonely Planet Magazine India (March 2011).

Sounds great. Going to Bintan next week and my friends are only looking for some time at the beach and at the resort. This isn't what i'm looking for. Is it easy to get a guide or rent a motorcycle to explore the Island? Thanks for some recommandations. Makuba

hey, not sure if this is too late, but i would definitely get out to tanjung pinang town (the capital of bintan) and check out senggarang. also, climbing gunung bintan is always a nice way to work up some sweat! penyengat has an old fort perfect for picnic (some stunning views). all hotels will allow u to rent taxis. should be about a 100 sgd for a full day.
