S$50 notes with KF on top right are worthless
THE Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has clarified that S$50 (RM116.33) notes with the letters “KF” on the top right hand corner were considered mutilated on purpose and worthless.
The letters looked “legally imprinted”, said G.S. Lee in an e-mail to The Straits Times online portal, Stomp, asking what the letters might mean. But “KF” is not part of the S$50 note’s design, said a MAS’ spokesman, adding it did not know what “KF” stood for.
Lee had withdrew some money from a bank's ATM earlier this month, and felt that three of his S$50 notes seemed a bit strange - the letters “KF” on the top right hand corner.
Notes with such markings were of no value, said MAS.
Anyone who has notes with the markings can take them to the banks to be exchanged and MAS will take the notes back as an “act of grace”.
