Will be in Singapore for just 3 days with two small children and will be doing the parks and zoo circuit. So am looking for a good child friendly hotel around US$ 75 per night. I know the location is not important as the trains connect the whole city but would prefer to be near Orchard Street or Clarke Quay area. Thanks in advance esp since at Thorn Tree the responses are so quick and informative.

$75 is difficult to get in Singapore. Try the Robertson Quay Hotel. It is situated at the end of Clarkes Quay overlooking the river. It also has a small swimming pool for the children. However rooms are very small!

agree with Merrills that USD75 is difficult in Singapore. Quite unfortunately, we are experiencing a hotel crunch at the moment and prices have gone up.
You might want to consider YMCA International House (http://www.ymcaih.com.sg) from SGD180 per night or Hotel 81 Rochor (http://www.hotel81.com.sg/hotels_rochor.shtml) from SGD119.
The YMCA is on Orchard Road and very near to the Dhoby Ghaut train station. Hotel 81 Rochor is on Bencoolen Street and 10-15 mins walk to the Bugis MRT station.
Be careful about booking some of the other hotels under the Hotel 81 chain as they are located near the red light district.
