First timers to Singapore sgould have a Singapore Sling, hang the expense, but never never ever do it anywhere else but the Raffles.

That's the whole point of it. Tiger being shot in the billiard room etc.

Raffles is certainly the classy authentic venue, and the SS should definitely be sampled there, but I wouldn't do it again. They'd made it up, in bulk, stored it in a big plastic container kept in the fridge.
The flavour and quality was way down, compared to the ones we tried elsewhere that were mixed fresh.

precisely, #21.

once and once only. it's a total ripoff.

from about 1979 to 1985, the prices were ok, but they started going stupid in the 90's.

  1. It cost me about S$25 from the airport to Little India, that was late night AND with the driver (somehow, I have no idea how) getting lost.

There's some sort of complimentary coupon package that Singapore Tourism offers (or did) that includes a free Singapore Sling at some place at Raffles Quay. Personally I prefer the Singapore Grip.

I am currently reading (again) the Novel "The Singapore Grip" by J. G. Farrell (1978, Book Club Associates, UK).

There is another brilliant novel set in the same era (and made into a TV mini series: "Tanamera - Lion of Singapore", by Noel Barber. (1981, Coronet, UK)

You are looking for Club St, the bar is called 'screening room' not cheap, a bit pretentious but great views, very cool place!
