Hi there. Will be spending 5 days in SG in July on way back to NZ. Keen to get some recommendations on where to stay and what to stay? Key points are we are travelling with our son who will be 9 months old and looking for really good hotel as this is basically our honeymoon! Budget not unlimited but happy to spend some hard earned to make this a really special occasion. Keen to stay in SG and have ruled out the beach holiday thing in Bintan etc due to planned trip to FIji later in year.

So, any suggestions would be great. Cheers Bob

There are plenty of great hotels in Singapore if you have the cash.........how much approx. per night were you thinking?

I don't know? What do I need to pay for something v nice? My wife to be is doing all the usual research but wanted to throw it open. Budget somewhere between $250 and $500 a night?

The Mandarin Oriental is great value and well within that budget......its the best place I've stayed in in Singapore.

I've never stayed in the Ritz-Carlton but I've been in the public rooms-truly spectacular.....but considerably more pricy than the Oriental, towards the upper end of your price range or maybe even more.

There is Raffles of course if you prefer something classic/colonial rather than modern...i haven't been in there for many years (and it has been pretty much 'reconstructed'since then).

You want to try the new Marina Bay Sands hotel? Price-wise is also near the upper end of your budget but there is a sky pool and you and your wife can watch the whole skyline of Singapore from the sky park.

Btw there is another hotel with similar name "Mandarin Orchard", could be quite nice but my friends' complain is that the swimming pool is too small.

Thanks for that. Will check out those suggestions. Swimming pool size not that important as will have our young son with us!

Here are some must sees in Singapore -

1) Sentosa island - 1 day
2) take a night cruise in the harbour
3) Evening walk and dinner along the singapore river (and the countless food stalls along it's banks)
4) The zoo = 1 day

Must do's -
1) "Partake" teh singapore sling in raffles hotel
2) Much on the fish head curry at Muththus (Little India)
