I will be arrriving at Manila airport Terminal 3 (Cathay Pacific) and am wondering about exchanging money. I dont want to spend my time in Manila if i can help it so i am thinking of exchanging cash at the airport. Enough for about two weeks if i can as i will be travelling by bicycle spending most of my time in small places / countryside.

My question is.....what are the exchange rates like at the airport ? i am sure i could find a better rate in Manila itself but that would involve an…

This is getting ridiculous, especially since the previous kidnappings from Samal have not even been solved yet.

I'm a travel photographer and will travel to the Philippines for close to a month in November.

Can anyone provide an update on the safety at the places that I will visit? I understand that I have to take the usual precautions. Is that enough or are there other things that I should be on the lookout?

Will stay a couple of days in Manila and then from there visit the rice terraces in the north.

Is it possible to fly to Bagio from Manila or is the only option the 7-8 hour bus ride?

Once in…

Hi thorntree'ers,
So I'm heading to the Philippines for 3 weeks in November and I am wanting to find the best backpacking chill out places south of Manila. Now I'm not expecting or wanting the packed Thailand vibe but for sure relaxing at a beach with other liked minded budget travellers as I am travelling solo. With cool bars, cheap booze and music would be perfect.
I am thinking of flying from Manilia to Puerto P and on to El Nido for a week. So I need 2 other destinations for about 5-6 days…

Hi, I love cycling and am thinking of taking a fold-up bicycle to the Philippines. I was thinking of taking it by boat and exploring Bohol, siquijor and Camiguin as day rides. Roughly the route from here: http://www.spiceroads.com/tours/visayas

I don't want to rent a motorcycle there because I have done that numerous times and had to pay "fines" to the police each time for not having a motorcycle licence and am not doing that again. I also love cycling and I would hire bikes in the…

Hello all,
Wanting to pass an itinerary on for suggestions etc.
I have from 26th Dec thru Jan 12th in Philippines and wanting to see it in a semi-relaxed state. This is what I have so far:
Arrive Manila
Straight out flying to Tacloban and drive/ rent motorbike to Biliran
(not sure if Malapascua or Bantayan are easy to get to from here or well worth the visit???)
Then from Tacloban fly to Siargo Island for some surfing
Then onto Camiguin Island (fly?)
Then Bohol to see Chocolate Hills - Panglao Island

New Years Eve

Hi everyone, I will stay in Palawan from December 26 until January 2. I am traveling with my sister, who is 25 years old; so we are looking for a place to spend the New Years Eve. We are thinking in going to Puerto Princesa and El Nido. Could you suggest a place in Palawan where we can find something special to start the New Year? Thanks for your help!

Hi,
My wife and I are spending almost three weeks in the Philippines later this year, arriving in Cebu on the 12th of December and most probably leaving on the 31st of December. We will then stay two days in Hong Kong, including New Years Eve, before flying back home.
We are in our early 30s and are looking for nice beaches, snorkeling, maybe some hiking or climbing as well as nice places to wind down. We are not looking for any night life scene or fancy resorts, and have completely ruled out…

Hi all,

Going for a quick holiday to the phillipines with my girlfriend. Unfortunately only for two weeks (6 - 20 november) so I had to make a lot of decisions on where not to go. Finally brought it down to Bohol and Apo island because of the variety of things to do and see as well as the ease of travel.

Plan is to fly manilla to Tagbilaran, spend 7-10 days on Bohol. Then hop over to dumaguete to do a day trip to oslob and spend the last couple of days on Apo island before flying Dumaguete -…
