According to the Inquirer, 3000 supporters turned up at his local town hall when he appeared there. Wouldn't say 3000 is very popular, but probably more than what GMA can muster at this moment in time.

My take is that a deal has been done. He is released to appease the masses and the military (though I'm not sure how he'll appease the latter). Also GMA is probably worried that she may be incarcerated in the near future, so wants to have a few favours to be called in.
