We are now very excited about our trip to the Philippines (thanks to everyone who replied to the last post). We leave in two weeks and hope to do quite a lot of diving. Where can people recomend for this time of year? (july/august)

I agree Apo Island may POSSIBLY be the best... but based on what criteria? (BTW, there is also an Apo Island north of Palwan near Mindoro...)

On the western side of Negros Island opposite where Apo Island is, you'll find the island of DANJUGAN- a marine sanctuary (under the supervision of the Coral Cay Conservation Foundation of England) and to its southeastern point is the village of Punta Ballo (part of the city of SIPALAY) where they do wreck diving as well as open water courses.

The training is undertaken by a Swiss Dive Master/Dive resort operator (the only in the area) who had mapped out the underwater topography of this part of the deep blue waters of the Sulu Sea...

Historically, the area is quite deep that the American submarine which delivered arms to guerrillas during the last World War in the Pacific chose the area for the landing site...
There are also a couple of sunken ships- one of which sunk after being bombed by a Japanese fighter plane....

I went down there a few years ago, and the trip was ALL WORTH it!

Would suggest Central Visayas in July/August, weather will be better than it will be in the north and west.
