Hi,

I'm interested in skydiving in the Philippines, as I guess it is a lot more affordable here.

I have already done a tandem and I would like to do a comple AFF (Accelrated Free Fall) course with 8-9 jumps.

I have searched the internet and this turned up "The Skydiving Center in Tanauan, Batangas presents one of the most spectacular skydiving scenery in the world, with a drop zone between Mount Makiling and Taal Volcano".

But I can't find their offical website with details, like price and course details.

Pampanga, near Clark airfield seems to be another, but again not a lot of details.

Can someone provide more information especially regarding prices and course options.

Thanks in advance.

Arjun

In the Philippines, you can do this either in Pampanga or in Cebu.

Cebu

Located in the Queen City of the South, the jump is made either 2 of the nearer Drop zones from the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA); either Camotes Island or Tagbilaran Airport.

Load will be at MCIA, after which a cross- province flight will occur before jumping above the designated DZ.

Camotes Island is big, every land below you is an alternative... designated landing area is a runway itself while the DZ in Tagbilaran Airport has a grassy landing area with the length same as runway, but not suitable for swooping.
Pampanga

The centre provides student training & static line parachuting, and advanced training.

How to get started.

As a beginner, you have two options.

You can either choose the tandem freefall wherein you get to experience the thrill and adrenaline of skydiving with a licensed instructor. You will be instructed for a few minutes before the actual jump that would take place immediately after.

Tandem Skydiving is the best method for making your first skydive. It takes a minimal amount of instruction, and allows you to make your initial skydive(s) with an instructor harnessed to you for the entire skydiving experience.

Surveys indicate that most people jumping for the first time choose the tandem method. Some drop zones use tandem jumps to introduce students into the solo training programs. Training generally takes less than 30 minutes, and depending on a number of variables, a student may spend only half a day for the training and the jump.

Both the student and the instructor are attached to the same parachute system. They freefall together for 30 to 50 seconds, depending on jump altitude, typically 10,000 to 13,000 feet. They descend together under a single large parachute with dual controls.

Another option would be to undergo the Static- line program.

This should be your initial course into becoming a licensed skydiver.

This program includes practical instruction on climb-out and exit of the aircraft, freefall, canopy flight, landing, and emergency procedures.

Assisted during your climb out by the Static-Line Instructor, the student exits the aircraft solo with the parachute deploying immediately. Exit and opening occur at 3,500 feet, then the student pilots the parachute to the landing area.

This should be your initial course into becoming a licenses skydiver

forget about it. I have been skydiving more than 30 years, all over the world and I would never recommend doing it in the Philippines. Skydiving is not something you do somewhere because it's cheap. I have been living in the Philippines 5 years and skydived with Cebu sport parachute club up til a year ago when I retired. As far as I know I was the only Tandem Instructor in the country and I don't know of any AFF school either so that only leaves Static Line which is rarely used as a training method in the Western world except armed forces. If you want to save some money and perhaps your life, try Australia or New Zealand.

Hi,

Thanks for the advice vorninoz.

I guess you're right, the 'Static Line' is the only thing apart from the tandem in the Philippines.

I have already decided that I'll do it in New Zealand. In fact you can get a full AFF course inside 2500 NZD, which is cheaper that most other drop zones in Asia.

Thanks

Good choice. Very good schools in N.Z. and I don't think the price will vary greatly from school to school. So now you only need to decide on an area with good weather so yyou don't get any delays. Christchurch has stable weather in the Summer and a very good Skydive Universty but you can check them all out on the net, the Auckland area has a lot of rain so forget that, Taupo has 3 skydive centres but I think only 1 is doing AFF but Taupo is a great place to be and a guy Called Tony Green is part owner of Skydive Taupo and also owns a back packer lodge so he might give you a deal, tell him Vaughn Brady sent you. Good Luck. By the way. I used to own a skydive centre in Taupo. I now have a small resort on Bantayan Island.

if you do without a parachute, then obviously it's going to be a lot cheaper than elsewhere.
