My son [42] and I planning 7 day trip to the Philippines .We are not dealers but hobby shell collectors and we would like to collect washed out shell [not live]Wich island would be the best? I know already lots of you gonna say do not touch it, but they are not live shells, Australian customs let them in as long as dead, what are the rules over there???Thank you

You said it - 'don't touch it'!

And if you do, Philippines customs will prevent you from exporting them and, hopefully, impose a large fine as well.

@2-it doesnt really matter where the shells are from -they can confiscate certain types -mostly because they want to keep them for themselves

at one time I used to work in South Africa and the next-door shop sold sea shells, 'by the sea shore'. People used to put them into their ears to 'hear the sea' before they bought them which I thought was really funny, because the sea itself close by, was much louder.

I'm sure southern Africa has quite a large amount of seashells of its own, but I found out that all the seashells, were imported from the Philippines. Sometimes I used to help unpack them from the boxes they arrived in and the seashells were all wrapped up in Filipino newspapers.

Philippine laws protect some types of shells. The 2001 Fisheries Administrative Order 208 protects rare, threatened, and endangered species that taking or catching them except for scientific research purposes is punishable by imprisonment of up to 20 years or fine of up to P120,000 or both.
