San Juan (La Union) to Banaue to Manila. What routes?

Hi all,

We are looking to travel by public transport from San Juan (La Union) to Banaue at the beginning of February and are wondering if the best route is through Tagudin and Cervantes, both in time and scenery. After Banaue we are heading back to Manila, so southbound we'll go through Baguio, but maybe this route northbound is also more beautiful (or lots easier) than passing Cervantes?
Any tips and experiences?
