Hi everyone,

I'm still in the early stages of planning a longer trip to the Philiipines in December and January 2019/2020. I want to apply for the 59 days visum to have more time to explore but I figure that the destinations I had in my mind are either too may or to far apart from each other.

I love pristine beaches, limestone cliffs, island-hopping, turqouise waterfalls, snorkelling. I know it's difficult to compare but e.g. I loved San Blas and parts of Bocas del toro in Panama, Koh Kood or Caye Caulker in Belize, or Laos in general :). I'd rather avod "posh" places, e.g. I didn't love Tulum in Mexico or Seminyak in Bali.

Palawan: i thought to either travel from or to Puerto Princesa from/to Coron, with 3 days at Port baton, 4 days at El Nido, booking a Tao Tour (5 days) and have 4 days at Coron (approx. 18 days in total)

Luzon: I'd love to do snorkelling with whale sharks and the offers in Donsol seems more animal firendly to me. Thus I thought to combine Donsol and Caramoan for some island-hopping. (approx 7 days)

Visayas: I thought about Malapascua and Moalboal (sardine run) (7 days), Bohol (5 days) and Siquijor (4 days) and maybe also head to Camiguin (3 days?)

Siargao: also on my much too long list, but it seems so nice from the piucs so I thought about 5 days here.

Could you help with recommendations what to skip (or to replace) or how to connect them best? Also all recommendations for maybe other places to go are welcome. I had e.g. also thought of Islas Gigantes. I'll be coming from Bangkok and continue to Hanoi.

Thank you so much in advance!

If you wanted to include Siargao you could replace Donsol with Padre Burgos and then continue on to Siargao from there

Thank you so much, gregs3071!

I will research on Padre Burgos and whale sharks there. Do you have recommendations on Padre Burgos/Sogod?
How "likely" would it be to see whale sharks? Is it rather for diving or snorkelling as well? I only did my open water that doesn't permit me to go deeper that 18 mts.

Thank you!

Seeing Malapascua’s main attraction, the thresher sharks, requires you to dive to 25 metres or deeper. Skip it and spend more time on the waterfalls near Moalboal, or exploring Siquijor and Bohol. Or Palawan including Coron, if you want to maximize your karst viewing.

I have no recommendations for Padre Burgos. You can research the likelihood of seeing whale sharks there at that time. I just mentioned it due to the proximity to Siargao

Some of the Malapascua dive shops will let you do a thresher shark dive as the deep dive component of AOW

Thank you, Gregs! Seems that the likelihood is okay in Sogod, but my guidebook is not really detailed about Leyte. Still researching in the web. If anyone in this forum has experiences on seeing whlaesharks in Sogt/Padre Burgos, I'd love to learn more about it!

Thank you, ftottawa! I'm thinking of spending more time in Cordon/Palawan now. I am just a bit concerned in how to fill the time without breaking the budget. I'd love to do the Tao Trip and maybe 2 island hopping tours on each sport (El Nido/ Cordon). Would you know some places which additionally could be done without a tour? The karsts look magnificent. Actually, the whole idea of doing this trip started when a friend send me a picture of Lake Kayangan two years ago :)

How about exploring Panay? (area is Western Visayas) Especially Antique... Iloilo City is the capital, and from there it is a one hour ferry ride to Bacolod, in Negros Occidental island, you can travel by bus (good roads) to Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental. Do check this area out....

You can get a 59 day visa on arrival at Manila or cebu airports.
In cebu airport the 59 day visa is only 3000 pesos and takes less than 5 minutes.

Ko Kood in Thailand ? That is a fairly posh resort island apart from Klong Chao and even there there are expensive resorts.
